Champion Q&A: Cristina Rodlo

“I fell in love with the commitment from those working behind the scenes.”

When did your love of football begin?

It started since I was a little girl. I grew up with two brothers that loved soccer and I always wanted to be around them and be involved so I started playing soccer with them from an early age.

Why are you becoming a Homeless World Cup Champion?

After working on the film The Beautiful Game last year (2021), I spoke to people from around the world and after meeting those real players who were part of the filming and have played in the tournament, I could see the impact it had on them.

I fell in love with the commitment from those working behind the scenes and the care they put in on getting the tournament right for those involved. I wanted to continue being a part of this great charity.

How do we end homelessness?

I don’t think there’s an easy answer. But the first step I believe is to start caring about one another.

If you could wake up with the skills of any footballer, past or present, whose skills would you adopt?

Mia Hamm.

Tell us something people might not know about you.

I had the chance to play for the Mexican team when I was a teenager.
