The Homeless World Cup Foundation is delighted to announce that the 2019 Homeless World Cup Tournament will take place in the city of Cardiff, Wales.
The official announcement was delivered live on the pitch before the Wales v Spain Exhibition Match at the Principality Stadium, to crowds of Welsh and Spanish fans. The announcement was made by Mel Young, surprising the world and most importantly, the Street Football Wales teams who are currently preparing for the Homeless World Cup 2018 in Mexico City.
“We are delighted to announce that the 2019 Homeless World Cup will take place in Cardiff,” said Mel Young Homeless World Cup co-Founder addressing the crowds at the Principality Stadium. “Teams from all over the world will be attending this inspirational event, and I’m sure it will be a world-class event. We are truly excited to be here.”
“I am so excited to have won the rights to bring the tournament to Wales”, says Michael Sheen, who led the Cardiff 2019 Homeless World Cup bid. “We are going to deliver the best tournament yet. I am incredibly grateful to the many partners across Wales who helped us get to this point. Thank you to Cardiff City Council, Cardiff University, Welsh Government, Sport Wales, FA Wales, Pobl Group and of course to Street Football Wales”.

We believe that Cardiff 2019 will be an extremely well organised tournament that will again inspire thousands of visitors and many more watching online.”
The tournament in Cardiff will be the 17th Homeless World Cup, bringing together more than 500 players representing 50+ countries around the world. It is a celebration of the amazing work done by all the Homeless World Cup National Partners around the world, an aspirational goal for individuals seeking a better future, and a powerful tool for changing public perceptions.
