The Stadium: May

Welcome to the May edition of The Stadium!

In this edition, we meet John Åsland, a 20-year-old goalkeeper who represented Norway at the Nordic Cup. Just six weeks before, he completed his rehabilitation programme with our Norwegian member, Gatefotball, run by the Salvation Army.

We also find out about our Brazilian member, Futebol Social, and explore the current state of the rainbow nation. In the world’s 5th largest country, the state of homelessness and poverty is complicated, but they are showing that a solution can be found on the football pitch.

Our referees are at the heart of the Homeless World Cup. In this edition we feature an interview with Head Referee, Paul Nagtegaal, where he shares his secret refereeing tips and how he will never be a referee who hands out red cards easily. We also hear from referee Duncan Williams in our pitch side Q&A.
