Ten years ago, Jones - a player on the men's team representing India at this year’s Homeless World Cup in Seoul - first kicked a football with friends in the bustling streets of India.

From that moment, he fell in love with the beautiful game. As he grew older, life’s challenges began to block his path, but amidst these struggles, Jones found solace on the football pitch, which became a “place to let go.”

Growing up playing slum soccer, he learned invaluable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and the profound impact of simple conversations. In his neighborhood, football was more than just a game; it was a space to forge friendships and escape the “difficulties around me.”

Jones expressed, “I thank everyone I meet for the time they share with me,” emphasizing the importance of taking time to build connections. He believes that even moments that may seem insignificant can carry immense power, as the right words at the right time can truly change someone’s life. Jones explained that there are times when we feel invisible, and when I am heard, I feel understood.

At the Homeless World Cup, Jones has captured hearts with his infectious positivity and unwavering outlook. He believes that we should unite under the fundamental idea that “we are one.” This belief shines through in how football connects players from diverse backgrounds, transcending barriers and bringing people together.

As the tournament progresses, Jones remains a beacon of hope and determination. His story serves as a powerful reminder that despite the challenges life presents, there is always a way forward, often as simple as saying hello.
