PDP FOUNDATION

PDP Foundation uses football as a tool for development and social change.The Foundation runs 16 sports-based projects, specifically football development programmes, in different regions of Pakistan.

In 2015, they reached 2,000 underprivileged children. The Foundation targets those living in slums and below the poverty line, with a particular focus on boys living on the street and girls at risk of dropping out of school in urban and rural slums. With a focus on a child’s right to play, regular evening sessions provide participants with coaching and guidance.

Pakistan has a population of 207.7 million. Located in Southern Asia, bordered by India, Iran, Afghanistan and China, 37.4% of the population live in urban areas (CIA Factbook, 2019). 

It is estimated that there are roughly 20 million people lacking adequate housing, with the majority living in slums and other forms of temporary housing (Al Arabiya, 2018).

As of 2018, 36.9% of the population faces food insecurity, primarily due to limited economic access by the poorest and most vulnerable group of the population, particularly women. The average Pakistani household spends 50.8% of monthly income on food (WFP, 2021). 

Women and girls face increased difficulties accessing humanitarian assistance and services, with 7.3 million children of primary school age are not enrolled, 57% of whom are girls. There is a strong correlation between girls’ level of education and all forms of undernutrition (WFP, 2021). 

In 2020 there were 829,000 new displacements due to disasters, with an expected additional 464,272 at risk for future displacement due to disaster. (Internal Displacement, 2021). As of 2017, it is estimated that there are between 2.58-2.68 million, registered and unregistered, refugees in Pakistan, primarily from Afghanistan (CIA Factbook, 2019).
