Mission and Vision
The Homeless World Cup Foundation is a unique, pioneering charity which uses football to inspire people who are homeless to change their own lives.
Our Vision is for a world without homelessness.
Our Mission is to use football to support and inspire people who are homeless to change their own lives; and to change perceptions and attitudes towards people who are experiencing homelessness.
We operate through a Network of Street Football Partners across 70+ countries to support grassroots football programmes. We provide a focus for—and celebration of—their year-round activity by organising and delivering an annual, world-class, international football tournament for national teams of men and women who are homeless.
A survey of Homeless World Cup players showed that:
The players at the tournament are the tip of the iceberg, individuals whose efforts and dedication to our Street Football Partner programmes—and to changing their lives—have earned them the opportunity of a lifetime. The impact of the Homeless World Cup Foundation extends far beyond the 500 players who attend the annual event.
The Homeless World Cup movement includes:
7o+ Street Football Partners
100,000 people every year
The Homeless World Cup has impacted the lives of 1.2 million homeless people around the globe since our founding more than a decade ago.
Change Through Football
Homelessness can force people into isolation, which affects their ability to share, communicate, and work with others.
When a person who is homeless gets involved in football, they build relationships; they become teammates who learn to trust and share. They have a responsibility to attend training sessions and games, to be on time, and to be prepared to participate. They feel that they are part of something larger than themselves.
The sense of empowerment that comes from participating in street football helps people who are homeless see that they can change their lives; and our Network of Street Football Partners organisations give them the tools they need to do just that.

An estimated 100 million people are homeless worldwide

And as many as 1 billion people lack adequate housing. The characteristics and causes of homelessness around the world are complex and varied. Homeless people experience social exclusion and stigmatization, economic hardship and poverty, and physical and mental health problems. The Homeless World Cup exists to help end this crisis in all its forms. Everyone deserves a home—a fundamental human right (United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights).
In an effort to shed light on the complex challenges and scale of the problem, we have compiled global homelessness statistics in the countries in which our Street Football Partners operate.
