  • Homeless World Cup to hold first event in Spain on 12th and 13th November

  • Teams made up of both male and female players from seven nations will compete for the trophy in Fuenlabrada

  • Park will provide the official ball for the tournament

Two football specialist companies, PARK and PlayerData, have joined up with the Homeless World Cup for a unique two-day Street Football tournament which will be held in the city of Fuenlabrada, Madrid this month (Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November 2022), the first time a Homeless World Cup event has been held in Spain.

Matches in Madrid will feature teams comprising of male and female players from seven European Homeless World Cup Member Countries, including a debut from a new Spanish Homeless World Cup Member Country and a team from the Ukraine.

Bosnia & Herzegovina, France, Italy, Portugal, Romania, two teams from Spain and Ukraine will be competing on a unique outdoor pitch located at Plaza de la Constitución, on the doorstep of Fuenlabrada City Hall.

The impact football brand for people and the planet, PARK will be the official ball for Fuenlabrada 2022. The tournament will use the world’s first carbon negative footballs, creating meaningful environmental impact over the two days. The official balls of the tournament have been directly passed from PARK’s Pass-a-ball project – where a ball is passed to someone in need for every ball purchased within their global community.

PlayerData, will be supplying all participating Homeless World Cup Member Countries competing at the two-day tournament with vests featuring the company’s EDGE GPS unit which updates to an app in under three minutes, providing an insight into workload, training regime and physical performance from those players taking part.

Mel Young, President and Co-Founder of the Homeless World Cup Foundation, said:  “We are incredibly excited to also be introducing a new partner in PARK, the impact football brand for people and the planet. We can’t think of a better fit for the Homeless World Cup and ball sponsors for Fuenlabrada 2022. The Homeless World Cup and PARK share the same goals, to use the power of football to tackle global inequalities and level the playing field.

PlayerData have supported us at two previous Homeless World Cups (Mexico 2018 and Cardiff 2019) so we are delighted to be working with them in Fuenlabrada. Their units and data collected over the two days will support managers and players alike in multiple areas including workload and performance, match and individual analysis and development of ideas and formations. PlayerData GPS technology provides invaluable insight and will continue to be a welcome addition to our Member Countries and tournament offering.

“We are also grateful to the support shown to us by several companies, including The Royal Spanish Football Federation, Sarape Social, Universidad Europea - Real Madrid Graduate School, Inurriak and Principe.

“Also, to Loranca 2 who have supported us with meal vouchers for our players, managers and staff on Sunday evening.”

Sam Davy, PARK founder, said: “Everyone at PARK is incredibly excited to be the official ball for Fuenlabrada 2022. We believe this partnership with the Homeless World Cup can highlight the real power of football to tackle global issues and level the playing field.”

Beth Gray, COO at PlayerData, said: “This is an incredible opportunity for PlayerData to get involved and support an event that means so much to us. We have been working with the Homeless World Cup team since 2018 and are delighted at the opportunity to further our partnership with them at this event. We are really excited to be attending a smaller and more intimate event where we can really spend time with each team and get them some invaluable data!”
