It’s 50 days to go until the Homeless World Cup starts in Seoul
Homeless World Cup President and Co-Founder Mel Young starts a Homeless World Cup #passforhome challenge
The #passforhome will travel from Edinburgh to Seoul via the international teams competing at the 2024 Seoul Homeless World Cup.
The pass will arrive in the Korean capital the day before the tournament starts.
With 50 days to go until the 19th edition of the Homeless World Cup in Seoul, Homeless World Cup President and Co-Founder Mel Young started the Homeless World Cup’s #passforhome passing the ball from Edinburgh to Seoul via the participating nations.
Mel Young passed the ball from Edinburgh, Scotland, where the Homeless World Cup HQ is and also where the Homeless World Cup was held in 2005, to Brazil that hosted the tournament in Rio de Janeiro in 2010.
The ball will then be passed around the competing nations until it reaches the Korean capital a day before the competition is due to start. The 2024 Seoul Homeless World Cup will take place from 21st - 28th September at Hanyang University.
The #passforhome challenge was launched in Korea earlier this year and Tottenham Hotspur and Korea superstar striker Heung-Min Son took part, helping to raise awareness of the tournament. LOC Chairman and former professional footballer Keun-Ho Lee also took part in the challenge.
The tournament will see 49 nations, 64 teams and 500 players compete across 8 days in September in a festival of football, friendship and culture between the very best homeless football players and teams from across the globe.
An estimated 100m people are homeless worldwide. As many as 1 billion people lack adequate housing. The characteristics and causes of homelessness around the world are complex and varied. Homeless people experience social exclusion and stigmatisation, economic hardship and poverty, and physical and mental health problems.
The Homeless World Cup exists to help end this global crisis in all its forms.
