The Homeless World Cup is delighted to announce a new partnership with Working Word, a leading integrated PR agency who were instrumental to the success of the last tournament, held in Cardiff in 2019.

Working Word will be part of the Homeless World Cup’s Official Network, providing support via their staff and resources to promote the Homeless World Cup and support the charity at the 2023 Sacramento Homeless World Cup, the first time the tournament has been held in the USA.

Working closely with Homeless World Cup Champion Michael Sheen, Working Word designed and delivered an inspirational campaign around the last tournament, securing media coverage across the world to change perceptions of homelessness with content praised by the sector for its framing on homelessness.

The PR Week Top 150 agency, who recently worked as the communications agency for the UK & Ireland’s bid to host UEFA EURO 2028, will be supporting the Foundation on a pro-bono basis and will be sending three members of staff to support the Homeless World Cup’s communications team at this year’s tournament.

Mel Young, co-founder, and Homeless World Cup President, said:

“After the pandemic and postponement of three Homeless World Cup tournaments we are excited by the return of our much-loved tournament in Sacramento in July this year. Working Word will bring experience and expertise to the Homeless World Cup team heading out to the US.  They were a crucial component in our success at the Cardiff 2019 Homeless World Cup and we are delighted they will be supporting us again in Sacramento. We are thrilled and grateful to have Working Word on board and to become a part of our growing Homeless World Cup network of likeminded and inspirational organisations.”

Daniel Tyte, Managing Director of Working Word, said:

“The Homeless World Cup in Cardiff in 2019 was an awakening for us and we have Michael Sheen to thank for giving us that opportunity to experience a life-changing moment. Our team has worked on UEFA EUROS, FIFA World Cups, Champions League Finals, with clubs and national teams, but to be partnering with the Homeless World Cup again means the world to us.  Telling powerful stories with the potential to change lives is what drives us. That meant we had to be at the Homeless World Cup in California.”

The Homeless World Cup is a unique and pioneering tournament that uses football to inspire and demonstrate the power of sport in changing people’s lives. Partnering with 70+ Member Countries across the globe, the Homeless World Cup brings a sense of purpose to people who may feel like they’ve lost theirs and helps inspire them to change their lives.

Being homeless can be incredibly isolating, making people feel removed from society and alone. Joining a football team can be a small but hugely significant step in helping an individual to become part of a community.

The Sacramento 2023 Homeless World Cup will take place from Saturday 8th July – Saturday 15th July 2023 at California State University, Sacramento. As well as the venue for the games, the university will also accommodate the visiting countries from across the globe and their players on campus.
