  • The two-year agreement will renew collaboration between organisations

  • Partnership will benefit both the Homeless World Cup and our football partners

  • FIFPRO and Homeless World Cup have been partners since 2015

The Homeless World Cup are delighted to announce a two-year agreement with FIFPRO, the international association of professional footballers, continuing our ongoing collaboration.

FIFPRO have been a supporter of the Homeless World Cup since 2015. We hope this partnership will enable us to strengthen our global grassroots football partners, by improving links to national player associations. Collaboration will vary per country but might include supplying football material, informal coaching or refereeing sessions by FIFPRO players and attendance and support at local events.

In previous years, FIFPRO have sponsored the FIFPRO Fair Play Awards at the Homeless World Cup, recognising players and teams who display values of sportsmanship and the spirit of the tournament. We hope that our renewed collaboration will mean a continued FIFPRO presence at the Homeless World Cup.

The 18th edition of tournament will be held in Sacramento, California from 8-15th July. It’s the first time the Homeless World Cup has been held in the United States.

Homeless World Cup Co-founder and Chairman, Mel Young said: “It is great to renew our partnership. It is more than football that brings the Homeless World Cup and FIFPRO together, we are both committed to standing up for people’s rights and welfare, both on and off the pitch.”

FIFPRO General Secretary Jonas Baer-Hoffmann said: “For FIFPRO it is a no-brainer to continue our collaboration with the Homeless World Cup. Especially in these challenging times, there are so many people around the world who are in need of a helping hand. The Homeless World Cup offers them an opportunity to get their life back on track by using football as a vehicle. We admire these efforts, we support them, and we know that many of our member unions and players appreciate being involved.”

FIFPRO is the only worldwide representative organisation for professional footballers. It was established in 1965.

They work with national player unions in more than 66 countries worldwide to improve player conditions and ensure players rights are upheld throughout professional football, at all levels.

They also support players after their football career comes to an end and help them to prepare. Find out more about their work.
