FIFPRO Fair Play Award Day 3: “It’s not just the points that matter”

The spirit of sportsmanship on display at this year’s Homeless World Cup in Cardiff by the teams competing against each other is one of the most obvious ‘takeaways’ for those watching on from the stands and via the live stream.
And it’s these special acts of kindness, camaraderie and fair play that we celebrate every day that we recognise via our daily FIFPRO Fair Play Award.
And on Day 3 of the tournament, Poland took to the stage to celebrate being chosen as the recipient of the award, for their actions during their encounter with Greece yesterday on Pitch 1.
Team Poland encouraged their opponents when they had a chance to score, applauded their good play, and gave them space and time on the ball.
On hand to give out the award were three players from English Championship side Cardiff City in striker Danny Ward and midfielders Leandro Bacuna and Lloyd Humphries.
As a delighted coach Jacek Karczewski watched on and applauded, he said; “I’m proud of my players. Playing fair is more important than points in the game.”
