Cardiff 2019 building a lasting legacy

The City of Cardiff is gearing up to welcome this year’s Homeless World Cup. More than 500 players will travel to the Welsh capital for the week-long event that will run from July 27 – August 3 in what is promised to be one of the most inspiring tournaments yet.
In addition to being a world-class event, the Cardiff 2019 Homeless World Cup will deliver a long-lasting legacy aimed at tackling homelessness in Cardiff, as well as more widely across Wales. Building on the success of previous tournaments, Cardiff will take it up a gear to deliver a festival feel to the tournament and create numerous opportunities for the general public to get to know the players and teams from around the world. The tournament will bring unique platforms for maximum exposure that enable wider debate and action on homelessness whilst ensuring we deliver a fantastic football tournament experience for players and spectators.
Central to our plans are the engagement of 200 adults experiencing homelessness from across Wales as staff and volunteers, creating tailored opportunities that support them into long term stable employment. Every aspect of the tournament has had the support and input of ex Homeless World Cup players and people experiencing homelessness in Wales today. This tournament will change lives.
The Cardiff 2019 Homeless World Cup bid was led by Welsh actor and activist Michael Sheen. The event will be delivered by the Homeless World Cup Foundation in coordination with Cardiff City Council, Cardiff University, Cardiff City FC Foundation, FA Wales, Pobl Group, Office of Michael Sheen, Working Word, PYST and Street Football Wales.
