Tournament Format
Teams have been placed in two groups based on their Homeless World Cup Ranking. The top seeded team (Portugal) have been allocated to Group A, Position 1, the next highest seed (France) have been allocated to Group B, Position 1, the next highest (Bosnia & Herzegovina) to Group A, Position 2, and so on. The two Spanish teams are participating in a Homeless World Cup event for the first time and as such have no ranking. They are therefore seeded last.
DRAW
Two Groups (A and B) with four teams in each Group. The teams in each Group play each other in a round robin format. Each team plays three games.
Tournament Points
The number of points allocated at the end of a game are as follows:
The winning team receives 3 points. The losing team 0 points. If a match ends in a draw, it is decided by a sudden-death penalty shoot-out until one team has a one goal lead after both teams have taken the same number of penalty kicks.
In matches decided by a penalty shoot-out the winning team gets 2 points and the losing team gets 1 point.
In the event of a bye, the team without an opponent will be awarded a 1: 0 victory and 3 points. Friendly matches will be scheduled when possible.
Group Stage Rankings
At the end of the Group Stage, the teams in each Group are ranked based on:
First, number of Points.
Second, in the event that the teams have the same number of points at the end of the Group stage, the team with the least number of red cards will progress; if teams have received the same number (or no) red cards, then the team with the least number of blue cards will progress.
Third, if they have the same number of cards then progress will be decided on the head-to-head results between the two teams.
Goal difference will only be used between the teams that cannot be separated using the above criteria.
Therefore, it should be noted that high scores and/or goal difference do not contribute to deciding on placings unless more than two teams are tied in position and thus will only include the score between these teams.
Day 1:
Group Stage
Every team participating in a Homeless World Cup event plays the same number of games, with winning teams going ‘up’ and losing teams going ‘down’. Every team has something to play for in every game and will play three games (Quarter-, Semi- and Final).
The top ranked teams at the end of the Group Stage will play the lowest ranked teams in the other Group (e.g. A1 v B4, A2 v B3, etc). The winners of the quarter-finals will proceed with the chance to win the trophy and the losing teams will continue to play ‘B Semi-finals’ and Finals for overall position. The full Road to the Final can be seen in the Fixtures.
Day 2:
Finals
The tournament is played under Homeless World Cup Street Soccer Rules.
