Cardiff 2019 Homeless World Cup
The 17th edition of the Homeless World Cup will take place in Cardiff’s iconic Bute Park, right at the heart of the Welsh capital, from July 27 – August 3.
More than 500 players representing over 50 countries will travel to Cardiff to attend the week-long festival of football, in what is to become one of the most inspiring Homeless World Cup tournaments yet.
This year’s Homeless World Cup in Cardiff will welcome 64 teams from around the world.
The Men’s/Mixed competition will welcome 48 teams competing for six separate trophies, while the Women’s competition will see 16 teams playing for two trophies.
More than 500 players are expected to travel to the Welsh capital.
BRINGING THE TOURNAMENT TO CARDIFF
One of the goals of the Cardiff 2019 Homeless World Cup is to create a long-lasting legacy in Cardiff. In addition to aiming for maximum exposure of the event – thus changing people’s perceptions and understanding of homelessness – the event also aims at providing employment opportunities in the run-up and after the tournament.
The Cardiff 2019 Homeless World Cup bid was led by Welsh actor and activist Michael Sheen. The event will be delivered by the Homeless World Cup Foundation in coordination with Cardiff City Council, Cardiff University, Cardiff City FC Foundation, Welsh Government, FA Wales, Sport Wales, Pobl Group, Office of Michael Sheen, Working Word , Green Man Festival, PYST and Street Football Wales.
