SFA boss Gordon Smith has backed a street football project to find Scotland's next Homeless World Cup team. Housing Minister Alex Neil was also on hand to asess the quality of football talent on offer at this year's trials in Glasgow. More than 200 vulnerably-housed people from across Scotland turned up - 24 street football projects - in a bid to represent their country at this year's tournament in Milan. Smith said: "It's great to see so many people getting involved. It's a great project that shows football is for everyone."
Scotland is ranked second out of the 48 countries set to travel to Italy in September, and Street Soccer (Scotland) chief executive and Scottish HWC Team Manager David Duke said he was whittling down his final squad. "Our national street soccer festival in the east end was a great place to start the process - it united all the different street soccer projects going on across the country," he said. "I'll name the final squad in the coming weeks."
