The team were given a rousing send off by the Deputy Lord Mayor, Emer Costello.
Ireland's homeless world cup team were given a rousing send of by Dublin's Deputy Lord mayor Emer Costello an a reception in the Mansion House Dublin. Also there to see the lads were Minister For Housing Michael Finneran and chief executive of the Football Association of Ireland John Delaney.
After a comprehensive selection process the players selected were drawn from Irelands Issues Street Leagues which are run in several venues in Dublin and expanded this year toCork, Waterford, Limerick, Athlone, Galway and Longford. . The players have trained hard and have been playing friendlies on a weekly basis in preparation for Melbourne. Our participation in the European Indoor Soccer Championships in Poland in September, where we finished in 5th place, was a great indicator of what we have to do. The lads, with the management team, have responded positively to the challenge. We expect to face a high level of competition at the World Cup and we're preparing accordingly. The players certainly have the skill, commitment, prideand desire to meet any challenge thrown at them. The mood is good and our expectations high.
